King James Version
What does 1 Corinthians 13:6 mean? โPassage Context
Devotional Reflection
Always loving is a big request and hard to achieve. God alone is always loving. However, the Holy Spirit gives Christians the power to always love. Paul says elsewhere, "The love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us" (Rom. 5:5). This love is eternal because it is God's love, shown by the sacrifice of Jesus, and given by the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
God, the sweet and glorious, I humbly acknowledge Your limitless capacity for love, the overwhelming need for love in those around me, and my own finite capacity for love. Please infuse my heart with Your Holy Spirit and give me the ability to always love as You do. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Love does have its delights. One of these pleasures comes from what is real, genuine, and true โ TRUTH! So, as followers of Jesus, we don't lie, trick, or force people in our relationships. Instead, we are open, close, and honest with each other. Why? Because real love takes pleasure in the truth.
Prayer
O LORD, God of love and truth, when You pour Your love into my heart by Your Holy Spirit, please refine my love to be real and pure, without guile, manipulation, or deception. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Always love โ a very lofty order and a pretty tough thing. Only God is always. But then Christians are propelled to an always love by the Holy Spirit! Elsewhere, Paul informs us that "the love of God has been poured out within our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us" (Rom. 5:5). No wonder this love is constant โ it is God's love, proven by Jesus' sacrifice, and conveyed by the Holy Spirit!
Prayer
Sweet and glorious God in the sky, I bow down before You because I know Your love is limitless, that everyone around me needs love so much, and that I can only love so much. Please fill my heart with Your Holy Spirit and give me the power to always love like You do. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
