What does 1 Corinthians 15:54 mean? β†’

Passage Context

52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

As Christians, even if our bodies die, we don't! When our bodies die, we will be given new bodies that will never die. Christ will bring us back to life and give us the power to live forever. We won't be able to be hurt by death because we are God's children. We are going to win. Death is not the last word. Jesus is, and He says, "Get up!

Prayer

Father, I realize that my physical earthly body is vulnerable. Dear Father, I know that no matter how excellent a condition I keep it in or how vigilant I am about my health, I cannot halt the process of physical death in my body. But I am happy to know that even if my physical body fails, You won't fail. Even though my human body is feeble, I know You are mighty and triumphant. I anticipate the day of victory when death will be swallowed up by the majesty and power of Jesus' return for me and transformation of me. Until that day, Lord God, I serve You with gladness as I look forward to seeing You face to face. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
