³Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

⁴The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

⁵Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

⁶But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.

⁷For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

Devotional Reflection

Paul told us in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 that our bodies are not our own and that we were bought with a price. In chapter 7, he tells us again that when we get married, our bodies no longer belong to us, but to our spouses. We should use our bodies to bless, please, and make our marriage partner happy. This is very important for our marriage and to please God.

Prayer

Holy and loving God, Abba Father, please forgive me when I have made myself look bad by not treating my body as a gift to You. No matter if I'm married or not, I want to use my body in a way that is holy and pleasing to You (and to my marriage partner). In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
