"And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

King James Version

Passage Context

15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

Devotional Reflection

GratitudeHope

So much of what we want is only temporary. Once we get it, we have to do our best to keep it because we know it won't last forever. God has told us that if we want to have a relationship with Him and do what He wants, we will live forever, just like He does. So let's stop and think about how we spend our time, money, and energy, and ask ourselves if what we're going after is really something we want. Then, let's ask one more important question: "Is it going to last long enough to make a difference, even if it's worth having?

Prayer

Please, Eternal Father, give me the courage to tell the truth about what I want to do with my life. I'd like it to help Your cause. I want to change things for the better. I'll admit that some of this desire is about me. But, dear Father, I really do want to live in a way that helps other people and brings honor to You. I don't want to waste my time on things that won't last and don't matter. Please give me the spiritual wisdom to follow Your will and find Your life instead of chasing the shadow values of my culture. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
