Devotional Reflection
This passage is taken from the great account of the prophet Micaiah. Jehoshaphat knew not to rely on advice from false prophets. He was insistent that God's people must first seek the Lord's guidance before engaging in combat with anyone! This ought to be how we live as well. We often pray for God to bless our predetermined course of action rather than taking the time to seek our Father's will through fasting, prayer, and study of the Bible. Let's not make hasty judgments. God has promised to guide us by His Spirit; therefore, let us not hurry the Spirit's guidance or, even worse, disregard it and then expect God to bless us nonetheless!
Prayer
Please direct my choices as I seek Your will and Your glory, O Holy and Almighty God, Ruler of all peoples and Sovereign over all creation. I desire to conduct my life in accordance with Your will for my family, my job, and my ministry. Instead of looking out for myself and my own fame, I want to be Your servant. I am grateful that You sent Your Spirit to guide me, enlighten Your Word, and equip and enable me to serve You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
