¹⁸Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

¹⁹But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

²⁰Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

²¹Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Devotional Reflection

If price shows how valuable something is, we are very valuable. God gave up the most valuable thing in heaven to save us from sin and death and bring us into His family. Silver and gold aren't nearly as valuable as that.

Prayer

Holy God, help me to realize how valuable I am to You every day. May Your sense of my value permeate all of my words, ideas, and deeds—not so that I may appear significant to others, but so that I may live in holiness and honor of Your priceless gift to me. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.

Father, I don't know how to feel about the fact that You think so highly of me. Forgive me for making myself less important by sinning, for dwelling on small things, and for chasing after things that don't matter. I'm glad You love me so much. Help me, by Your Spirit, to live up to the value You see in me and strive for the high life You want me to live. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
