1 Peter 2:15 ยท KJV

"For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:"

King James Version

What does 1 Peter 2:15 mean? โ†’

Passage Context

13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

Devotional Reflection

What do people need to hear from me the most right now? A life set to the tune of grace, which is what I say I believe. Peter's answer to trouble, cynicism, and even persecution is to do good and be like Christ. We are free because of Jesus, but that doesn't mean we have to act like we are free to prove it. Instead, we can live for the One who died to defeat death and gave up complete freedom in heaven so that we could have it. We are free to help other people, but most of all, we are free to serve God.

Prayer

Holy Father, my Great Emancipator, at the expense of Your priceless Son, You have set me free from sin, the law, and death. I invite You into my heart today to tell You that I love You. I also want to express my gratitude for this amazing gift of redemption. Please accept my thanksgiving offering today, which consists of the actions of my life, the words I speak, the ideas I have, the feelings I feel, and the emotions I experience. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
