Passage Context

4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Devotional Reflection

LoveJoyPeaceGratitudeHopeAwe

So many people just drift through life. They never get enough sleep to truly live. But we won't waste our lives like that! We know we are alive because Jesus came and not only gave us life, but also taught us how to live. So we will be on the lookout. We're going to be in charge of ourselves. We'll be fully alive because we know that Jesus' return is coming soon and that our day of salvation and freedom is coming soon after that.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times I've lost the urgency to live for Jesus. Use the Holy Spirit in me to make me want to serve Him with my eyes wide open and my heart set on great and heavenly things. I know that You can and will do more than I can ask or think of, but please wake me up so that I can dream big dreams and think of big things for Your glory. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
