Devotional Reflection
Many people in the Western Hemisphere celebrate Mother's Day today. Today is a great day for all of us to honor our mothers, especially widows. Many of our churches have taken leadership roles (or at least the names) from the New Testament, which is commendable. We have bishops, elders, shepherds, pastors, ministers, deacons, ministry leaders, and more. Why has there never been a "List of Widows"? This group of women has shown that they are godly by the way they have lived their lives. Now, Paul says, the church should help support and take care of them so they can keep doing ministry without having to worry about meeting their basic needs. On a day when everyone celebrates mothers, let's honor our godly mothers, especially widows, for their good works and service to God's people. Let's show them how much we love and care for them.
Prayer
Father, thank you for the women among us who have been faithful to their husbands, kind to their children, and welcoming to your people. Forgive our churches for not putting more value on these godly examples and resources for ministry and inspiration. Open our eyes to the godly women among us that we need to serve, support, and bless during this hard time. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
