"For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."

King James Version

What does 2 Corinthians 4:16 mean? โ†’

Passage Context

14Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
15For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
16For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Devotional Reflection

Even though we joke about getting older, the problems that come with it are hard. We know that we are going to die. The way we feel can betray us. We can't do the things we used to be able to. As Christians, we know that getting older brings us closer to home and to the day when Jesus gives us bodies that can't get old. God can help us use these earthly things to remind us of what's really important. With the help of His Spirit, we can change to be more like our Savior and get ready for our heavenly home.

Prayer

Supreme God, I'll admit that the older I get, the less I enjoy getting older. However, I am grateful that as I get older, I get closer to returning to Your side. Please don't let me age into cynicism, negativity, or bitterness. Instead, renew me and use me to bless those who still need to return to You. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
