2 Corinthians 5:21 Β· KJV

"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

King James Version

What does 2 Corinthians 5:21 mean? β†’

Passage Context

19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Righteousness! We are more than just morally upright. It is much larger than that. We embody what God intends for us to be. Because of Jesus, we represent God's righteousness and demonstrate His holiness, justice, and kindness.

Prayer

I'm grateful to Almighty God for making me righteous through the death of His Son. As I work to spread Your grace, may people see in me a reflection of Your holiness, justice, and mercy. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

When was the last time you thought of yourself as "God's righteousness"? What does it all mean? It means we have the best qualities that can be found in the best beings. Even though we were made in God's image (Genesis 1:26-27), we know that we are not exactly like God. We know that we make mistakes and have flaws. God is good in everything. We are aware of our flaws and inconsistencies! When it comes to God, there are no flaws. So, how can we be "God's righteousness"? Jesus, who was God's perfect and sinless Righteous One, took our sin on Himself so that we could be His righteousness. That's more than just grace; it's a miracle! And that is exactly what you are, dear friend of Jesus!

Prayer

Thank you, kind and loving Father, for giving Your Son as a sacrifice to save me and make me perfect. Please use me to tell someone around me about Your grace and salvation who hasn't accepted it yet. In the name of Jesus, my big brother and the One who saved me, I pray. Amen.

Jesus was righteous, holy, perfect, and clean. But He took on sin, which He hated. Why would He do that? Because He loved us and wanted us to become what He is now, which is God's righteous people.

Prayer

Father, you are all-powerful and loving. Thank you that Jesus' death on the cross made me holy, or righteous in your eyes. Thank you, dear Savior, for paying such a terrible price, not only by dying on the cross but also by becoming my sin and taking away my guilt. All praise to you, dear Father, for your plan, and all glory to you, dear Jesus, for your loving sacrifice. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Righteousness! We are just that. We aren't merely good people; it's a lot bigger than that. We are what God wants us to be. Because of Jesus, we are His righteousness and show how holy, fair, and kind God really is.

Prayer

Thank you, All-Powerful God, for making me good through the death of Your Son. As I try to share Your grace with others, may they see in me a reflection of Your holiness, justice, and mercy. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
