¹²For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

¹³Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁴That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

¹⁵This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

We live in a world full of keys, locks, alarms, and other ways to keep things safe. We shouldn't be surprised by what Paul says. We take care of the things we value the most. What is more valuable to us than the Gospel's message of God's saving grace? God has given us all a built-in security system to help us keep that very precious hope safe. This safety system is inside of us. It is the Spirit of God.

Prayer

O God, help me to resist compromising Your truth in favor of formality or latitude. I want to lead a holy life and teach others to do the same. I want to extend to them Your mercy and grace. Father, I want them to join me in welcoming Jesus when He comes back, most of all. Please give me the ability to discern truth from error through the power of Your Spirit so that I can defend and uphold Your truth. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
