Devotional Reflection
There are no random acts of kindness. There are only acts of kindness that are planned and given the chance to happen. We have talked about nice things we could do. We have made a promise to act in ways that are kind and helpful. We have asked God for a chance to be kind. Then an opportunity comes up, and voila! We do nice things. There's nothing odd about that! This is true not only in what we do, but also in what we say. We are told to do more than just avoid bad speech. We are told to use our words to bless others and help them find Christ.
Prayer
Father, if you could pardon me for my careless words this week. I realize that speaking carelessly is sinful twice; the first time was when I did it, and the second time was when I missed the chance to speak in a way that was redeeming and beneficial. Lord, please open my eyes so I can see the people you have placed in my path for me to bless. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Jesus told us that we will have to answer to God for every thoughtless word we say to other people (Matthew 12:36-37). We need to listen to the Lord's warning about being careful with our words in a time when social media is full of mean, ugly, and divisive speech. Paul told us we should be even more careful about what and how we say things. The apostle said that our influence on people who don't know Christ is very important. We want to use every chance we can to get people to open their hearts to Jesus. When we're around people who aren't Christians, we need to be kind, show that we care, and be careful about what we say. The eternal fate of those around us may depend on what we say to them. Let's put thought into how we say things. Let's take advantage of every chance we get to show people the grace of Jesus.
Prayer
Holy and Righteous God, I know we break Your heart when we, Your people, hurt and push away non-believers with thoughtless and hurtful words and cruel posts on social media. Please help me, O God, to be friendly with everyone, but especially with those who don't know Jesus as their Lord and Savior yet. Use how I live and what I say to bring people to Jesus. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Please forgive me, Father, for the careless things I've said this week. I know that these careless words are two sins in one: I sinned when I said them, and I sinned again because I didn't see the chance to say something good and helpful. Lord, please open my eyes so I can see the people You have put in my path to bless. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
