Passage Context

5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

God should be the first thing we think of every day. We should be reminded that God has given us another day to serve Him with each breath we take. Every heartbeat is a reminder from God that we still have another minute to do our best for Him. It's very simple to overlook this blessing. We are more likely to remember these truths if we teach, demonstrate, and live them in front of and around our children. However, let's not assume that they will pick these things up from watching us. Let's look for chances to share God's truth, give thanks to our Heavenly Father, and discuss our faith.

Prayer

Thank you, All-Powerful God, Generous Sustainer, and Unmerited Friend! I'm grateful for the breath I take and the heartbeat that keeps me alive. Make me conscious of Your presence and deserving of my best effort as I travel, converse, rest, and go about my work. I offer my gracious sacrifice in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Every day should start with God. Every time we take a breath, we should be reminded that God has given us another day to serve Him. Every heartbeat is a drumbeat of love from God, reminding us that we have another minute to give Him our best. It's so easy to forget about this blessing. When we teach, show, and live these truths with and in front of our children, we are more likely to remember them. But let's not expect them to learn these things just by watching us. Let's look for opportunities to talk about our faith, praise our Heavenly Father, and share God's truth.

Prayer

Thank you, Almighty God, Gracious Provider, and Undeserved Friend! Thank you for the air I breathe and the beat of my heart, which keeps me alive. Make me aware that You are there when I travel, talk, rest, and work, and that You deserve my best. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
