Passage Context

3If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

I'm not sure. I have no idea! That must be one of the most difficult phrases for us to say. But that's really all we can say about God and the way He does things. Only what God has chosen to show us about Himself is what we know about Him. He is the biggest mystery of them all. He is the best unknown that can be known. What we do know about Him, which He has shown us through Jesus, is that He is not only powerful and awesome, but also kind and forgiving.

Prayer

I can only offer my wonder and awe to you, Lord God. I am humbled by your wonderfully complex and expansive sovereignty when I consider the size of the universe in which our tiny blue planet spins its existence. I value your proximity, Abba Father, but at the same time, you are the God who transcends space and time, the God who is far above all I know, as well as the God who is always near. We appreciate your being reachable but impenetrable and available but uncontrollable. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

I'm not sure. I'm not sure! That has to be one of the most difficult phrases for us to say. But when it comes to God and His ways, that's about all we have to say. What we know about God is limited to what He has decided to disclose to us in His grace. He is the Mysterious Mystery of Mysteries. He is the ultimate known Unknown. But what we do know about Him, what He has shown to us in Jesus, is that He is not just great and majestic, but also compassionate and merciful.

Prayer

I can only offer you wonder and awe, O Lord God. When I think about how small our blue planet is in comparison to the size of the universe, I am awed by how big and complex your sovereignty is. At the same time, Abba Father, I love being close to you. You are the best thing I know, the God who is bigger than space and time, and also my Father, God. Thank you for being open but not easy to get into, for being there but not easy to control. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
