Passage Context

6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Devotional Reflection

Do you like getting gifts? Even more so when they are really given to us with no strings attached and all we have to do is take them. The best thing that's ever happened to us has nothing to do with what we've done. God gave it to us. We didn't buy it, earn it, or do anything to deserve it. God gave it to us as a sacrifice so that our salvation wouldn't be a sign of how good we are, but of how kind God is.

Prayer

I can never express enough gratitude to you, Holy God, for sending Jesus and forgiving me of my sin. May I never take for granted your kindness or minimize the price of your gift. At the same time, Father, I want to live with assurance because I know that your grace, not my mistakes, is what will save me. I want to live for you today in a way that shows how happy I am to have received such a wonderful gift. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

As a kid, I loved getting presents. When life was so simple, a gift showed me that I was loved. I didn't think about what a gift meant or if it had a secret message. I didn't care that the gift came with "strings attached." It was just a gift from someone who really cared about me. It was a free sign of love that I didn't deserve. Isn't it great that we can be God's children and receive His gift as if we were children?

Prayer

Thank you, kind Father, for the gifts of grace, faith, salvation, and, most of all, Jesus. I know I'll never be able to repay these gifts, but I hope to say "thank you" through the way I live now, and I hope to keep saying "thank you" for all of time. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Holy God, I'll never be able to thank You enough for sending Jesus to die for my sins. May I never take Your kindness or the cost of Your gift for granted. At the same time, Father, I want to live with confidence, knowing that my salvation does not depend on my mistakes but on Your grace. Because You gave me such a wonderful gift, I want to live for You today in a way that shows how grateful I am to have received it. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
