King James Version

What does Ephesians 4:15 mean? β†’

Passage Context

13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Devotional Reflection

LoveGratitudeHopeDoubt

It's hard enough to tell the truth. Do I have to do it out of love? Yes, if I want to be Christ's person, I have to talk to people like He did.

Prayer

Father, please pardon me for the resentment in my heart and the unfairness in my speech. Please, by Your Spirit, guide me to speak in a way that will bless others and exalt You. Throughout today, may I speak Your truth in all my interactions with Your love. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Words that are true are true. When said with love, words can be a blessing. But truth spoken with love is healing. It blesses those who hear it and helps the person who says it grow. It's not always easy to tell the truth with love, but it's worth it! Look at God, and you'll see how hard it was for Him to show how much He loved His Word by sending Jesus. But through that one sacrificed Word, He has saved us and shown us how gracious, merciful, and loving He is.

Prayer

Holy God, help me to speak only the truth in love. I apologize if I have ever used the "painful truth" to stir up conflict, offend someone, or make a good impression. I apologize if I have ever lied, distorted, or exaggerated. I want to speak in a straightforward, tender, loving manner. I want the way I interact with people to reflect your grace. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

As Christians, our purpose is to mature and become fully present in the world as Jesus Christ's united body of believers. We can only accomplish this challenging task if we communicate the truth, which is God's Spirit-inspired message, in love. How can we teach people about God's love that sent Jesus if we don't demonstrate it ourselves?

Prayer

God, you are omnipotent and ready to sacrifice yourself for others. Please assist me in encasing all of my negative thoughts and deeds in your love. Every day, I need the Holy Spirit's transforming and purifying power to be even more powerful in my life. Please fill me up and increase the reality of the fruit of the Spirit's activity in my words and deeds. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer

Father, please forgive me for the anger in my heart and the harsh words I've said. Help me better use my words to bless other people and bring glory to You through Your Spirit. May I speak Your truth with love in every conversation I have today. By Him who is both Truth and Love, in Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
