Passage Context

2Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Devotional Reflection

FearDoubt

God tells fathers to take care of their children's souls, which may seem strange since mothers know their children so well. I don't think He wants to leave out moms. No, I don't think He doubts they'll do what they need to do. But the father's influence and the way he trains his children are so important.

Prayer

Father in heaven, may my kids come to know You through me. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Malachi 4:6 says that fathers and children will be together again in their hearts. Let's make that happen in our homes by taking care of and correcting our children in a balanced way. Let's not fill our faith with so many rules and restrictions that it's hard for our children to hear that we love them and are happy with them. Let's not give our kids so much freedom that they feel alone and scared. Let's open our hearts to them and ask God to open their hearts to their home with Him and with us.

Prayer

O Lord God Almighty, Abba Father, our country is suffering because so many fathers have left their children both spiritually and physically. Please raise up parents, especially fathers, who can balance the hard tasks of loving, caring for, and correcting their children so that our land can be healed and our children can know Your love and grace. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
