Galatians 5:16 ยท KJV

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh."

King James Version

What does Galatians 5:16 mean? โ†’

Passage Context

14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Devotional Reflection

JoyPeaceGratitudeHope

I don't want you to imagine an orange rhinoceros with blue wings flying through the air. Now quit. I don't want you to give it any more thought. You know that there is no such thing as an orange flying rhino, let alone one with blue wings. The point is simple, of course: the more we try not to do something, the more we think about it and make sure we do it. This is why the Holy Spirit's gift is so important. He gives us the power and ability to get past our sin, not by focusing on it and refusing it, but by filling us with good things and "distracting" us with the important things of God.

Prayer

I am so grateful to you, Father, for sending your Holy Spirit to live within me and to be pleading on my behalf right now. Please infuse me with your Spirit so that my life more closely reflects your wishes and is concerned with what you care about. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Abba, Father, I'm so grateful that Your Holy Spirit lives in me and is now praying for me to You. Please fill me with Your Spirit so that my life comes closer to doing what You want and focusing on what You care about. Through Jesus, who filled me with the Holy Spirit when I was baptized. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
