"And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day."

It is not uncommon for us to be humbled by a natural disaster, a world war, an incurable disease, an economic recession, or widespread social disorder when we have grown too large for our britches. Our pride can be a sign that bad things are about to happen to us. Is there a rule of the universe that explains this? ("Pride goes before a fall.") Or is this how God's active discipline works? I think the answer to both of these questions is "Yes!" God and His world remind us that we can't control a lot of things in our lives. This passage, on the other hand, goes beyond the general rules. It talks about a final day when arrogance will be gone and all false gods will be gone. On that day, the people who love God will be happy and rejoice. Until then, let's walk with God in a humble way.
