What does Isaiah 6:7 mean? β†’

Passage Context

5Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
9And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

Devotional Reflection

LoveGratitudeHopeAwe

During the Lord's Supper, God reminds us that when we eat bread and drink wine, our "guilt has been put away" and "sin has been paid for." The Holy One accomplished something we could never do because of His grace: He offered His own Son as the ideal atonement for our sin. Instead of coming from what we accomplish on earth, purity, righteousness, and perfection come from the One who came from heaven's altar and offered His life so that we may be the righteousness of God (see 2 Cor. 5:21).

Prayer

Dear and loving Father, I appreciate You giving up Your sinless Son to atone for my sins. Use me to spread the word about Your wonderful gift that makes people holy and pure so they may stand before You. I offer You all credit, honor, gratitude, and praise in the name of Jesus, my Savior and Lord. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
