"But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold."

King James Version

What does Job 23:10 mean? β†’

Passage Context

8Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
9On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
10But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
11My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
12Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Devotional Reflection

GratitudeHopeShame

Oh, how we wish this were the case. Although we aren't yet gold, we aspire to be. Although we're making progress, we're not quite following in His footsteps yet. Though we've tried not to stray, it happens occasionally. Praise God for His grace while we wait for our discipleship goals and plans to be realized.

Prayer

Magnificent Universe-Creator and Sustainer, I humbly confess my transgressions and my lack of ability to follow Your paths. As I pledge to serve You with holiness and joy, please pardon me. I'm grateful for Your grace, which covers my sin and completes in me Jesus' character. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

How we wish this were the truth about us. We aren't gold yet, but we want to be. We're not quite following in His footsteps yet, but we're working on it. We have tried not to get off track, but sometimes we do. Thank God for His grace until our goals and plans for our discipleship come true.

Prayer

Creator and Keeper of the Universe, I admit that I have sinned and that I am not good enough to follow Your ways. Please forgive me, because I want to spend my life serving You in holiness and joy. Thank You for Your grace, which covers my wrongdoing and makes me more like Jesus. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
