"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."
King James Version
What does John 10:11 mean? βPassage Context
Devotional Reflection
In the Bible, many types of admirable leaders are referred to as "shepherds." But there is only one genuine Shepherd. He demonstrates to us that the essence of Christian leadership is sacrifice, not rank, and service, not self-interest. We cling to this Shepherd because we are certain that He values us more than Himself.
Prayer
Sacred and ready to offer, Father, I'm in awe of Your strategy in having Jesus serve as both Lord and Lamb, Shepherd and Sacrifice. I'm grateful that You gave me life through His death and that You demonstrated leadership through His life. I'll always be appreciative to You. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
How do we know whom to follow? How do we identify the difference between those who truly speak for God and those who exploit people's faith? Jesus appears and puts us to the ultimate test: Will the Shepherd lay down His life for the sheep?
Prayer
God, I am grateful that You sent Jesus to be my shepherd. I thank You for giving Him the faith, strength, and conviction to lay down His life not only for me but for everyone in the world. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your flawless love and selfless giving. I express my sincere gratitude and adoration to "He who sits on the throne" and "the Lamb that was slain" for Your grace and kindness. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
