Devotional Reflection
At many Christian funerals, the preacher talks about how Jesus died so that we can join Him in heaven. Then He is going to come back for us. But Jesus adds this promise just a few verses later. He is telling us that until we can come live with Him at His place, He will come live with us here in our hearts. All of it depends on one thing: our willingness to love Him in a way that makes us want to obey Him. Not too bad, right? So let's not let obedience be a forgotten word in our lives!
Prayer
Jesus came to earth and followed Your will, holy God. Give me discernment so that I will want to live in accordance with Your will rather than just following Your commands. You have done so much to save me, and I long to honor You. I'm grateful. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Jesus says at the start of this chapter that He is going back to heaven to make a place for us. Now, though, He wants us to understand that we don't have to wait until heaven to be with God. As we love God and do what He says, He comes to live with us. God, the Creator of the Universe, the Holy One of Israel, lives in me! Isn't that a wonderful and kind thought?
Prayer
God, I thank and praise You for being with me all the time. May everything I do, think, and say in my life show how holy and gracious You are. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
At many Christian funerals, the preacher talks about how Jesus died so that we can join Him in heaven. Then He will come back to get us. But Jesus adds this promise just a few verses later. He is telling us that until we can come live with Him at His place, He will come live with us here in our hearts. All of it depends on one thing: our willingness to love Him in a way that makes us want to obey Him. Not too bad, right? So let's not forget the word "obedience" in our daily lives.
Prayer
Holy God, I know that Jesus came to earth and did what You wanted Him to do. Give me wisdom so that when I obey You, it's not just because I'm told to, but because I want to do what You want. I want to show You how much I appreciate what You've done to save me. Thank You. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
