John 3:20 Β· KJV

"For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved."

King James Version

What does John 3:20 mean? β†’

Passage Context

18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

Devotional Reflection

Truth shows itself through what it does and whom it seeks. Let's live as children of light and seek the Father, who dwells in glorious, unapproachable light, so that we can be the light of the world.

Prayer

Father of every heavenly light, I come before You with all my flaws, failures, and sins, and I ask You to gently correct me. Please pardon me and cleanse me through the shed blood of Jesus so that I may be blameless, holy, and spotless in Your eyes. Lord, I want to serve You and Your church rather than just ask for Your forgiveness. Please guide me toward being of use. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

What gives your life meaning? One clear way to find out is to go to Jesus and ask Him to search you and show you anything in you that is spiritually unhealthy or unholy. Opening ourselves up to the light of His scrutiny, to the truth of His Light, gives us an amazing sense of freedom. We have nothing to keep secret. Then God can do some truly amazing things in and through us because we don't have any bad intentions.

Prayer

Thank you, God, for giving me Your light through Your Son, who is the Light of the world. Please show me gently where I am weak, where I sin, where I am dishonest, and where I lie. I want to live my life only for You and only in front of You. In the name of Jesus, I ask for this in a humble way. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer

Father of every heavenly light, I ask You to gently correct me as I bring all of my flaws, mistakes, and sins to You. Forgive me and wash me clean with the blood of Jesus so that I can be holy and clean in Your eyes. Lord, I don't just want to be forgiven; I also want to help You and Your church. Please show me how to become useful. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
