Passage Context

25Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
27Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
28Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
29But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

Devotional Reflection

GratitudeAwe

John 1:14 says that Jesus is the most important message from God (cf. Heb. 1:1-3). This is, of course, a mystery that we don't fully understand. It goes beyond what we can see and comprehend. People who don't like Jesus quickly say that He can't be the Messiah because they think they know where He comes from. They are mistaken. They think He is from Nazareth, not Bethlehem. We know better. Even worse, they are wrong because Jesus isn't really from Bethlehem. Instead, He is "from above." When we try to figure out all that Jesus is as our Savior, Christ the Lord, it wears out our minds and fills our hearts with wonder.

Prayer

Help my heart to be filled with astonishment, wonder, joy, love, pleasure, pride, and awe at the sight of His power, grace, sacrifice, victory, and love. You, Father, and Christ deserve all the glory and honor I can find in my heart and say with my voice. In the name of Jesus, I praise You! In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
