74That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
75In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

Devotional Reflection

How does someone get saved? Does it come from the feeling that something is very wrong and that we need to fix it? Does it come from making things look better so we don't get down on ourselves and give up? Is it the result of a lucky break? Does it happen because we are so good that we deserve it? Does it come from following every law to the letter? No! "The tender mercy of our God" is the source of both salvation and forgiveness.

Prayer

Father, I admit that I have occasionally attempted to work for my salvation. Other times, I've abused Your mercy and grace by taking it for granted. Father, I want to live today for You—not so that I can be saved or win salvation, but so that I can honor and reflect You and Your nature. My redemption from the worthless lifestyle that I see so many people trapped in all around me is thanks to Your mercy and grace. I thank You for Your salvation, but I ask for Your assistance in living so that everything I say, think, and do reflects the joy of that salvation. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer

I'm sorry, Father, but I've tried to earn my way to heaven. At other times, I have taken Your mercy and grace for granted and stepped on them. Today, Father, I want to live for You, not to be saved or get saved, but to make You happy and show You what kind of person I am. Your mercy and grace have saved me from a worthless way of life that so many people around me are stuck in. Please help me live in a way that shows the joy of being saved by You in everything I say, think, and do. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
