Devotional Reflection
It is common for us to attempt to attract large numbers of people to our churches, crusades, and rallies. While serving large crowds, Jesus also ministered to individuals. However, when He was alone with His disciples, away from the crowds, He imparted the most profound teachings about discipleship. It is not sufficient for mature disciples to be called to the next level of their Savior-centered walk based on what is acceptable to the crowd. For this reason, Jesus withdrew to teach a small group of devoted disciples in order to prepare them for the challenges they would face in the future.
Prayer
Holy God, I pray that You will bless the members of my Bible study group and all those who seek to follow You regardless of the costs involved. I would appreciate it if You would direct me to a small group of Christians with whom I can share my life and who will challenge me to grow in my submission to Christ. In Jesus' name, I ask. Amen.
