Matthew 7:12 ยท KJV

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."

King James Version

What does Matthew 7:12 mean? โ†’

Passage Context

10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Devotional Reflection

The Golden Rule is called "golden" because it is real, true, and helpful. Imagine how different our world would be if we followed this rule not just in our "church life" but in everything we did: with our family, our coworkers, our boss, the people we manage, the people we pass on the freeway, in our neighborhoods, and the people who serve us. How different the world would be if everyone followed the Golden Rule. I think it will start to change my life today. What do you think?

Prayer

Father, you are such a generous man to have given me so many wonderful and valuable things. I will never be able to thank you enough for everything. I want you to know one thing, dear Father: I really value how you have treated me with grace and not with justice or judgment. Give me the ability to impact those in my life in the same way this week. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Ah! Doesn't the "Golden Rule" make sense? We often make things much too convoluted and difficult to grasp, particularly when it comes to religion. I adore the Bible because God's instructions for how we should live are often obvious and simple. Do you want to know how to treat others? Then do for them what you would have them do for you. Don't do anything to them unless you believe it would bless, encourage, build up, support, comfort, or aid you. Do not do anything to them that would cause you pain, wound, depression, irritability, or discouragement. Treat others with the same courtesy, compassion, love, and sensitivity that you would want to be shown. Simple to grasp and revolutionary to execute!

Prayer

I'm grateful to the all-powerful God for making certain things so simple to comprehend. Please pour Your love into my heart as I strive to live by the "Golden Rule" in all of my interactions. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Some things don't need much explaining; they just need to be done more. Let's make a promise to follow the Golden Rule no matter what we're doing with other people.

Prayer

Loving God, All-Powerful Father, please forgive me for being selfish. You have given me so many good things through Jesus. Please use Your Spirit to move me to treat others as generously, lovingly, forgivingly, and kindly as I want them to treat me. Help me to follow the Golden Rule in all my interactions with other people, no matter what the situation is. I want to treat other people with as much love and kindness as the Lord Jesus has shown me. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

I want You to know, dear Father, that I really appreciate how You have treated me with grace instead of justice or judgment. Give me the ability to do the same for the people I meet this week. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
