What does Philippians 2:14 mean? โPassage Context
Devotional Reflection
Stars. God's people have always been able to find hope in them. God told Abraham, "Your children will be as many as the stars." The Psalms ask, "When I look at the stars, what is man that you care about him?" Wise men from the East found their way to Jesus by following a star. Luke tells us that Jesus was a morning star that came down from heaven to shine on people who were in the dark. Now we're famous. The stars in the dark sky of the universe are God's points of light. So let's make today a day when our light shows the glory of God to a dark world.
Prayer
Almighty God, I am unable to comprehend the vastness of Your universe or its billions of stars. However, I am grateful that You have chosen me to be a beacon of light in an otherwise dark world, and I make a commitment to do everything in my power to make this day bright for everyone. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Don't whine or fight! We don't usually think of these things when we think of purity and innocence. Paul was very close to and knew a lot about the Philippians. He was aware of their flaws and weaknesses. He also knew that complaining and fighting can hurt the life of a group of Christians who are getting along well otherwise. Let's listen to his advice now, when churches are being taken over by the negative and cynical spirit that is so common in modern society.
Prayer
God, please forgive me and wash away my spirit of arguing. Please give me Your Spirit so that I can use my words only to bless and build up, and never to hurt or discourage. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
We shouldn't be surprised when people around us who don't believe in God have different values than we do. After all, a star doesn't find it strange that it shines in the vast darkness around it. Similarly, a star and a follower of Jesus have the same main goal: to shine their light in the darkness, no matter how dark it is.
Prayer
Holy and righteous LORD, I can't wait for the day I can stand in Your presence and see Your glory. Please give me the courage and honesty I need to be a light for those around me who are struggling in the dark. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
