Passage Context

4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Devotional Reflection

GratitudeHopeCompassionAwe

Lord, gently humble us. One of my friend's favorite prayers is that one. I like it, too. But thank God Jesus wasn't humbled in a soft way. I'm sorry He had to go through pain, but the way He put Himself last was shocking, brave, extreme, and inspiring. I should have the same attitude when I try to find God's lost children.

Prayer

Even though You are all-powerful, God, You humbled Yourself in order to save me. May I treat people with greater selflessness, more in line with how Jesus is with me. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

What a wonderful idea! What a high goal to have! What an amazing problem! I should think and act like Jesus did. It's hard to even imagine, but almost! You see, God calls us to this glorious, lofty, and unimaginable height because He calls us His children. He wants us to be humble and help others, just like Jesus did.

Prayer

Father Almighty and Eternal, thank you for showing your grace in Jesus, which is so vast it's hard to understand. Help His attitude of service, obedience, and sacrifice to take root in my heart and shape how I live every day. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Jesus didn't hold on to His glory in heaven. Instead, He gave it up to save us. Now, He wants us to follow His lead and feel what He feels. He wants us to treat each other the way He has treated us, putting their needs and God's will ahead of our own. Now that's a change I hope to see all the way through.

Prayer

Please change my heart and mind, Father God, by the power of Your Holy Spirit. I want to think the way You do. I want what's in my heart to be like what was important to Your Son. I want Your Spirit to direct my will. Please forgive me for being stubborn about my own importance, my own will, and my own self-justification, even when I know it's not right or best. Make my mind more like Your Son's mind. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
