Passage Context

5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Devotional Reflection

GratitudeHopeCompassionAwe

Lord, gently humble us. One of my friend's favorite prayers is that one. I like it, too. But thank God Jesus wasn't humbled in a soft way. I'm sorry He had to go through pain, but the way He put Himself last was shocking, brave, extreme, and inspiring. I should have the same attitude when I try to find God's lost children.

Prayer

Even though You are all-powerful, God, You humbled Yourself in order to save me. May I treat people with greater selflessness, more in line with how Jesus is with me. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Christianity isn't for people who are weak or afraid. Words like "made himself a nobody," "servant," "humbled himself," "became obedient," and "died on a cross" are used to describe our example. That's not easy. So that's the example we'll use. Jesus' story may start with a sweet child, but it also starts with Him being put where animals ate. Even though it may be powerful and important, it is not fake and sweet. It's about how people are different because they know their Redeemer and what that cost was.

Prayer

Almighty God, loving Father, thank you for putting the story of the Gospel in the world I live in. Jesus, thank you for saving me by coming into my world and facing its hardest parts. Help me learn to be selfless, obedient, and humble so that others can find your grace through me. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

God, You are all-powerful, but You gave up everything to save me. May I be more like Jesus in how I treat other people and how I think about them. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
