Devotional Reflection

HopeGriefShame

How often have you said something that was just wrong? More often than I'd like to remember, in my case. "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks," Jesus said about this subject, and it really makes me think. In other words, bad words and bad timing in our speech have more to do with how we feel than with how well we know how to act in public. Let's ask God to clean up, fix, and reorient our hearts toward His will and goals.

Prayer

Almighty God, loving and forgiving Father, please cleanse my heart of all evil, hate, deceit, prejudice, malice, lust, and greed. By the power of Jesus' name, please rid me of any bad power or tempting thing that would harm my heart and soul. Fill my heart with love, grace, righteousness, holy passion, gentleness, forbearance, sensitivity, courage, conviction, and forgiveness. Give me the wisdom to know which of these qualities is most important at any given time. Cleanse me with your Holy Spirit, body, soul, and spirit. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
