Devotional Reflection
Many people today think it shows strength to react quickly to anger, a threat, an insult, or a problem. But it's a bad idea to act quickly out of anger. A quick, unthought-out response rarely has the long-term effect that was wanted. This kind of response almost always makes things worse instead of better. Dealing with frustrating and painful situations with patience shows understanding and is almost always better in the long run. It can also keep you from losing friends, integrity, and respect for no reason.
Prayer
Father, I'd like You to give me patience and self-control. I know that these good things are the result of Your Spirit's presence in my life, so I ask that the Holy Spirit have a bigger effect on my heart and life. Please give me the understanding and wisdom to keep my mouth shut until I've had a chance to pray and think about the situation and the people involved. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
