Where do you get your value from? This proverb asks us to look at the world in a different way than most people do. God likes it when people are humble and help the poor and oppressed. Power abuse and haughtiness are not. God didn't just give us this saying; He also sent us His Son to show us how it works. Now if only we could figure out how to live it. Ah! But when Jesus says, "Follow me," we have the chance to show that we do. See John 13.

Prayer

Father, I know that I am weak and vulnerable to temptation, the allure of my culture's facades, and the pressure to be like the "popular crowd." Thank you for Jesus, who had power but was humble. He was important, but He related to those who were left out, forgotten, or rejected. Please use me to make a difference in my world by including people who have been left out, forgotten, or denied their rights. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
