Several profound lessons are taught to us in the beginning chapters of the Bible. First, we are fashioned in God's image, both male and female. Second, we are meant to be distinct (male and female). Third, we are meant to bless each other and be complements to one another. Fourth, a husband and wife are compelled to leave their families of origin and construct their lives together (Gen. 1:26-2:25). To discover a mate for life, one made by God in His image, is to find what is truly good and what God genuinely wishes.

Prayer

Father, I'm grateful for the plan you have for my life. (For those who are married) I thank you for my spouse and ask for your help to bless and fulfill that person in every way. (For the widowed) I ask you, dear Father, to help me cope with my loss and grief, and I want you to know how much I appreciate this special person whom you sent into my life. (For those who are single) I ask you to help me figure out what I should do with my life and to use me to bless others through the way I live with honesty and loyalty. (For people who just got divorced) I ask you, dear Father, to help me heal and to use me to serve you and bring you glory. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
