Devotional Reflection
Why hasn't anyone bothered to remind us of what God's wise servant taught us hundreds of years ago? Many people are looking for a way to stop the rampant violence that kills people, threatens schools, and makes our streets unsafe. Let's not make anyone, real or made up, our hero if their fame comes from violence. No one knew this better than the son of Israel's most famous warrior. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God," said the Son of the Most High.
Prayer
God Almighty, save us from the violence in our culture and the fact that we worship violence. Give us heroes who truly strive to make peace. Also, dear Father, please grant us the ability to recognize them and the strength to respect them. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
God does not like bullies, oppressors, or exploiters. People who use fear and violence to get what they want are disgusting and an abomination to the LORD. We shouldn't look up to, praise, or reward people who gain power by taking advantage of others.
Prayer
Please, Father and Sovereign LORD, break the power of those who hurt and abuse Your people. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
