Passage Context

10He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
11He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
12Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
13Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
14Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

Devotional Reflection

GriefDoubt

We are all mindful that we live in a broken world. Tragically, our broken world is also filled with broken people. In times of pain and misery, when those who hurt know their vulnerability, we have no other source than God to whom we can turn. The LORD, the covenant God of Israel, who stayed faithful to His promises, saved His people, and delivered His Messiah, is also the God who remains with us. In the short run, there are moments when He seems to not be watching, listening, or aware. What do we do in those moments? Pretend we don't have our feelings and doubts? No, we sincerely cry out to our LORD who has redeemed, saved, and liberated before, and we approach Him to do the same in our day!

Prayer

God of light, be with us in these frightening and gloomy times. Give us comfort in our times of suffering and restore to us the joy of living and the hope of good things. Raise your hand and take concrete steps to bring repentance and renewal to your church, your family, and our time. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
