Passage Context

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Devotional Reflection

HopeGrief

In the modern world, death is the worst thing you can say. We'd rather not even think about it, let alone talk about it. But death is the one thing that will always be with us. Death takes friends and family away from us. We will all have to deal with this at some point in our lives, unless Jesus comes before we die. So what can give us hope as we face what we can't avoid? Our Leader! He will be with us the whole way, guiding us, keeping us safe, and giving us comfort. And as Christians, this promise is even stronger because we know Jesus as our Good Shepherd. He has walked ahead of us to show us that our walk through the valley of death doesn't end in death, but in glory.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, my Shepherd and Savior, thank you that I don't have to face death alone. I look to you for help and listen for your voice so that you can lead me through the dark valley of death and into your holy and glorious presence. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
