King James Version
What does Psalm 34:12 mean? βPassage Context
Devotional Reflection
God tells us that our words and how we use them have a significant effect on the quality of our lives. Evil words and lies can cut short a full life like nothing else. They set in motion a force of deceit and harm that we cannot stop. This power that we release hurts not only the people we talk about and to, but also ourselves in the end. It acts like a boomerang and brings its deadly load back to us. Let's be the kind of people who say things that are right, good, clean, holy, true, and a blessing. (cf. Eph. 4:29β5:12)
Prayer
Holy and Righteous God, my Father, cleanse my heart and my words of all lies, slander, vulgarity, wickedness, untruth, exaggeration, meanness, distortion, trickery, and words that hurt. May the words I say and the thoughts I have be pleasing to You, O God. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
