Devotional Reflection
What a lovely prayer for Christians! In a world that is so self-centered, is it not refreshing to be reminded of the immense influence we can have for good or evil? Not only should we remember the devastating effects of our hypocrisy and rebellion, but we should also pray that our failures will not be destructive to the expansion of the Kingdom or to our Christian brothers and sisters as they seek to serve and glorify the Lord!
Prayer
I do not wish to sin, O merciful and powerful God. I am aware that it is a form of rebellion against You and that it breaks Your heart. I do not wish to sin because I am aware that doing so makes me more susceptible to Satan's attacks in the future. I do not wish to sin and dishonor Your cause, O God. And Father, I do not desire to sin and cause those who seek You to stumble. Please forgive my sins, but please, Father, strengthen me and assist me in resisting temptation. In the name of Jesus Christ, who overcame temptation and sin, I pray. Amen.
Even though we're all weak and sinful, and even though Jesus died for our sins and prays for us before the Father, there are still a few big problems with our sin. This verse helps us remember one of them: we don't want our sins to make God or His people look bad. God wants us to stay away from sin, so let's do that. Let's not sin so that God's people don't look bad. But let's also pray for ourselves and our fellow Christians, that God won't let our mistakes bring shame to His Church, Christ, and His cause.
Prayer
Shepherd, please forgive me for my sins. I'm sorry I didn't accept Your kindness. I am sure that You have forgiven me and washed me clean of my sins because of what Jesus did on the cross. But please, dear God, use Your divine power to stop them from making You and Your people look bad. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
