Passage Context

23Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

Devotional Reflection

What can truly keep us going and make us happy? Perhaps asking another question will help answer that one more effectively: When our bodies are quietly buried, what can we keep? The only connections we have that endure after we pass away are those with God and His people. If He is what endures, how can we replace Him with something that won't?

Prayer

You are my hope, my strength, and my future, mighty Yahweh, Strength of Israel, Keeper of the Covenant, and Fulfiller of every prophecy. I continue to be in utter awe of the Universe's Keeper, who knows my name, hears my voice, and is concerned about me. Thank you, Great I Am, for being my past, present, and future. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

In times of perplexity, we can take solace that while we may not comprehend everything here on earth (cf. Psalm 73:1-22), God will be faithful. Everything we have and know here on earth is prone to decay, but our connection with the LORD is our strength forever. He will not forsake, fail, or forget us.

Prayer

Almighty God, thank you for always being with me, especially when life is confusing and my fears are making me feel bad. Please give me the faith to not only ask you honest questions but also to trust you even when it doesn't look like things are going well for those who believe in you. Please help me keep my faith strong while I wait for your powerful justice for your people. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

What can really make us happy and keep us going? Maybe the best way to answer that question is to ask another: What can we keep when our bodies are quietly buried? Our relationships with God and His people are the only ones that last after we die. How can we replace Him with something that won't last if He is what lasts?

Prayer

You are my hope, my strength, and my future, Mighty Yahweh, Strength of Israel, Keeper of the Covenant, and Fulfiller of every prophecy. I still can't believe that the One who keeps the universe going knows my name, hears my voice, and cares about me. Thank you for being the Great I Am, my past, my present, and my future. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
