Devotional Reflection
Ow! Tax day. Not one of my favorites. What about you? But where would we be if we didn't have a government, rules, and laws? Even if we don't like how the system works now, imagine if we didn't have one. Let's live in a way that helps others and is good for our country. Let's also be good citizens and ask God to bless our country and bring it new life.
Prayer
I give thanks to the holy God that I am free in You and have no allegiance to anyone or anything. However, I will abide by the laws of this country in accordance with Your wishes because I want people to respect Your name. I fervently pray that You will also heal our nation and win back our hearts, O Lord. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Ouch! Taxes are awful. But I have to admit that I like a lot of the things that those taxes pay for. Paul tells us in Romans 13 that God uses civil authorities to stop chaos, lawlessness, and anarchy. As a Christian, I still have to follow most laws because my faith in Jesus will control how I act much more than any law. But Paul says I have a duty (I "owe" it) to be a good citizen, a good steward of my money, a nice, respectful neighbor, and a person who gladly honors those who deserve it.
Prayer
I hereby swear allegiance to you, O Mighty God. You are the only one who possesses these titles. I pledge to live today in a way that respects my allegiance to you, my citizenship in my country, and my respect for those I come into contact with today because you call me to honor my government, because you have so richly blessed me to be in a place like this, and because you have showered your grace on me so richly. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer
Holy God, I'm glad I'm free in You and don't belong to anyone or anything. Still, I will follow the laws of this land because I want Your name to be respected. At the same time, Lord, I ask You with all my heart to heal our land and turn our hearts back to You. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Almighty God, I swear to You that I will serve You. Only You are Sovereign, King, and Ruler. But because You ask me to respect my government and because You have given me so much grace by putting me in a place like this, I promise to live today in a way that shows my loyalty to You, my citizenship in my country, and my respect for the people I meet. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
