"For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's."

Passage Context

6He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
9For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
10But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Devotional Reflection

As Christians, one of the most amazing things we know is that our relationship with the Lord will last for all time. As we seek Him, He is always there, and no one can take us away from the love He has for us. We go to "be with the Lord" even after we die. We are still "in the Lord" when we die and go to sleep. When He comes back in power, we'll go to "be with the Lord forever." Everything we have on earth is temporary, except our love for the Lord Jesus, our praise of God through Him, and our friends with whom we share this love and praise.

Prayer

Thank you, Almighty God, for uniting yourself with our world through Jesus and uniting me to you through His rule over my life. I eagerly anticipate the day when everyone, living and dead, will acknowledge the Lord I kneel to worship today as the One True Lord. I swear to live today in His honor, and I know, Father, that in doing so, I honor you as well. In the name of Christ, my Lord, I laud and give you thanks for the gift of Jesus's enduring and eternal lordship. Amen. Our brothers and sisters in Iraq and numerous other Middle Eastern and African countries have been forced to make the ultimate sacrifice for their faith today and over the past few weeks. To the very end, they served as your servants. A few people have been crucified. Before being killed, some people witnessed the beheading of their children. Their lives on earth have been completely destroyed. Visit Voice of the Martyrs right away to learn more about their situation and to pray about how you can help. I'm grateful. In Jesus's precious name, I pray. Amen.

We belong to the Lord. He freed us from slavery to sin and death. We have put our lives in His hands by choice. His grace goes with us no matter what we do or where we go. He has said that He will never leave us. He has told us that nothing can ever get in the way of His love for us. So let's live with a sense of excited anticipation, waiting to see where the Lord will lead us. Let's face hard times, and even death, with the knowledge that we won't be alone. Even in the shadow of death, we don't have to be afraid of what evil can do. We belong to the Lord.

Prayer

Father, I'm grateful that You sent Your Son to save me. Lord Jesus, I'm grateful that You came to earth, paid for my sin, and sent the Holy Spirit to be Your presence in me. Take my life and do what You want with it. May my faith not fail when I face the worst things in life. I pray that You will be praised in me, whether I live or die. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Thank you so much, All-Powerful God, for tying yourself to our world through Jesus and for tying me to you through His rule in my life. I'm looking forward to the day when everyone, living and dead, will agree that the Lord I worship today is the One True Lord. I promise to live this day to honor Him, and I know, dear Father, that by honoring Him, I honor You. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, I praise and thank You for giving Jesus the power to be Lord forever. Amen. Our brothers and sisters in Iraq and many other places in the Middle East and Africa have had to make the ultimate sacrifice for their faith today and over the last few weeks. They have done their jobs until the very end. Some have been put on the cross. Some have seen their children killed before they died. Their lives on earth have been ruined. Please take a moment to go to Voice of the Martyrs to learn more about their situation and pray about how you can help. Thank you! I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
