Devotional Reflection
Through baptism, we join Christ in His death (cf. Romans 6:1-14). Our old, sinful selves died on the cross with Christ. Sin is no longer our master. We are still alive because of Christ, whom neither sin nor death could conquer. Now, His life is ours. His success is our success. His future is our future. Let's base our lives on this sure foundation!
Prayer
Merciful God, I can't believe You put all my sins in the grave of Your crucified Son and brought me back to life in Him. Help me find purpose, happiness, and victory in Jesus. Give me strength through Your Spirit and make me more like my Lord. Please give me the strength to live with full confidence that all my sin is dead, buried, and gone. Please give me faith that my new life is connected to Jesus' future. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
Jesus died for our sins, and so did we. But just putting sin away won't keep it from coming back. Every day, we must accept Jesus' new life for us and be open to the Lord's exciting will for us. Let's leave the dead and the past where they belong. Let's live with passion for God and keep our eyes on Jesus and what He has planned for us.
Prayer
Sovereign Lord and Loving Father, I don't want my sinful past to come back to life. Please give me the power to live a full, Spirit-filled life that is always ready to follow Your lead. Please let me know that You are there and what You want.
If we have been washed clean of sin, if we have died with Christ in baptism, and if the Holy Spirit has washed us thoroughly and completely, then let's live for God! Let's fight sin and our desire to sin with everything we've got, knowing that the Holy Spirit will give us the power to live a much better life of righteousness than we could on our own. Let's start each day by deciding to be dead to our sinful past and alive to the goal of becoming more like God.
Prayer
Almighty, loving, and righteous Father, help my heart stay firmly committed to doing what You want and becoming more like Your holy character and grace. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
