King James Version

Passage Context

12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Living a pure life is a constant battle between our flesh and the Spirit of God, who is trying to make us more like Christ. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, our willpower will fail in the end. But because the Spirit's power is at work in us, we can overcome our failures in the flesh and ensure we reach our goal of becoming like Christ (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).

Prayer

Father, please forgive me for the times when I let my flesh win over Your Spirit's call. Thank You for making me clean with the holy fire of the Spirit and leading me to be more like Jesus. Today, I'm giving You my heart on purpose so that You can help me become more like Jesus. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Over the past two weeks, we have been blessed to read a number of Bible passages that talk about how the Spirit works in our lives. We've been happy about being God's children for a few days now. Now, the two ideas come together in a beautiful statement: we are God's "sons," which means we are His children and have full inheritance rights. Not only has God given us grace, but we also live as His children and enjoy the benefits of being part of His eternal family.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, may I always think of Your name as holy because I am Your child. May Your will and Your rule be known in my life just as the angels honor it. Father, I know You will give me the food I need today, and I thank You for that. Please forgive me for my mistakes, just as I promise to forgive those who make mistakes against me. Dear Father, You are wonderful. Your Kingdom will always be there, and I want to be a part of it. Your strength gives me strength. I love You very much, Dad. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

God's mark on us is the Holy Spirit. The Spirit lives in us, and because He does, we are the temple of God. The Spirit changes us so that we become more like Christ. The Spirit helps us show Christ's virtues, like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control, and faithfulness. When we pray, the Spirit speaks for us when we don't have words. When we worship, the Spirit gives us strength and fills us with joy. We also know that we are God's children because of the Spirit. He owns us. We have His future, His gifts, and His grace.

Prayer

Dear Father, Thank you so much for sending your Holy Spirit to live inside me. Thank you for assuring me of your love, your presence, your power, and your guidance as I try to make decisions and face the challenges of my daily life. Dear Father, as I give my heart and will to the grace and power of your Spirit to change them, please help me become more like you and show your grace more fully today as I do the things I need to do. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
