King James Version
What does Titus 2:13 mean? βPassage Context
Devotional Reflection
1 and 2 Timothy and Titus contain some of the most fundamental and elevated statements about Jesus. These letters are intended to assist ministers in maturing churches in challenging locations. They are highly applicable, but also grounded in the work of Jesus, His divinity, and His fidelity. We await the One Who Is Faithful! We have faith that He will return for us because of the price He paid to redeem us. While we wait, we honor His mission by being a people eager to do good, demonstrating that He is our Lord through our actions.
Prayer
I find myself awaiting Jesus, O God. Because He is coming for me, I am confident that my life has purpose and direction, even on days that are long, difficult, and seemingly fruitless. Fire up my heart to eagerly anticipate Jesus' glorious return, and stir my desires to seek only what is good and holy. I desire to meet You! But, dear Lord, I desire to be like You as well! I pray in the glorious name of Jesus. Amen.
One way to think about our lives is as a wait. We wait for our "blessed hope," no matter how long or short the wait is. The reason for this hope is that Jesus said He would come back. But more than just His coming back, our hope is based on the fact that He will come as our glorious Savior. On that day, our faith in Jesus as Lord will be proven true, and our greatest hopes will come true.
Prayer
God, thank you for sending Jesus the first time to save me from my sins. You are a good and holy God. Please give me strength while I wait for His glorious return, so I can live as victorious a life now as I will in the future with You. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
We haven't reached our goal yet (cf. Philippians 3). We're ready to go! Jesus, who gave His own life to save us, will come back in glory to take us home. We should be eager to do what is right, good, and holy while we wait.
Prayer
Make me holy, Father. Holy Spirit, stir up my excitement. Jesus, make me glorious. Do these things so that people will praise you and be able to get to know you better. Please forgive me for the times I've settled for less than the best, and make me want to belong to you with all my heart. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
