The Father Is God

Published: January 9, 2024 · Reviewed: March 19, 2024

EPHESIANS 3:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

God is the first Father. Everything that makes fathers good came from God initially. All fatherhood on earth is but a copy of what existed initially in God.

EPHESIANS 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Jesus' purpose for coming to earth was to unveil and demonstrate to us who God is. Jesus established that God is a father.

Because the Old Testament does not explicitly teach this, the Jews were unaware of God as Father. No other faith had ever viewed God as a father.

Instead, God was typically viewed as a judge at best and frequently as a repulsive figure you could always count on to let you down.

He was seen as an individual who would play practical jokes on you for his own entertainment and took great pleasure in disappointing you.

God-related ideas haven't altered all that much, have they?

But Jesus showed that, contrary to what they had believed, God was a loving father. Not someone who would mistreat them, but someone who would look out for them and always act in their best interests. They need to find someone they can love more than they can love themselves.

What does God mean to you?

SAY THIS: God, thank You for being a father. Please make sure I constantly keep it in mind.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we bow our knees unto You, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. We thank You for revealing Your true nature to us, not as a judge or a disappointment, but as a loving Father. We acknowledge that all good things come from You, the first Father. Help us to always remember Your love and care for us. May we love You more than we love ourselves. Thank You for being our Father. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
