God Brings Back the Dead

Published: January 24, 2024 Β· Reviewed: February 2, 2024

ACTS 26:8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?

The verb tense in this verse is present. It does not state that God has just raised the dead in the present or that God has raised the dead in the past.

Instead of "I WAS" or "I WILL BE," our God is "I AM" (Exodus 3:14). In other words, God never changes and can effortlessly revive anyone from the dead at any time.

JOHN 5:21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

Both Elisha (2 Kings 4:32–35) and Elijah (1 Kings 17:20–22) witnessed the resurrection of the dead.

Even after he passed away, a dead man was brought back to life by touching Elisha's bones (2 Kings 13:21). This brought about the fulfillment of Elijah's prophecy that Elisha would possess a twofold anointing and be able to perform twice as many wonders as Elijah.

HEBREWS 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

Women who had their dead brought back to life are listed in the "hall of fame" of faith in Hebrews 11. These women decided to put up the effort necessary to ask God for something special.

This undoubtedly includes the female characters associated with Elijah and Elisha in the stories above. However, there might have been others.

Jesus not only raised a person from the dead three times during His earthly mission (Luke 7:14, Luke 8:54, and John 11:41–44), but He also promised in John 14:12 that people who trust in Him will also carry out His deeds.

Because the Bible only mentions three people Jesus raised from the dead while healing countless numbers of sick people, we infer that raising the dead and healing the sick are not exactly the same thing. Also note that the majority of those resurrected from the dead in the Bible were young.

While He was on earth, As part of their work, Jesus also gave His followers the authority to raise the dead.

MATTHEW 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Jesus then urged His disciples to teach others to obey all He had ordered them to do β€” even to the end of the age β€” in Matthew 28:18–20 (what is known as the Great Commission). Therefore, following Jesus' instructions to His first disciples is what we are called to do today.

MATTHEW 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Both Peter and Paul are recorded in Acts 9:40 and Acts 20:10 as resurrecting the dead after Jesus' return.

In the Bible, eight distinct individuals who were risen from the dead are mentioned. Jesus and the "many" who were risen from the dead and stated in Matthew 27:52–53 are not included in this number.

Abraham had trust that God would resurrect his son Isaac from the dead, and we are to have the same kind of faith (Romans 4:12,16). (Hebrews 11:19).

There are many accounts of persons being raised from the dead in the modern day as people have started to take the Bible literally.

Undoubtedly, throughout this age, not everyone will be raised from the dead. During His time on earth, Jesus did not bring every person who was dead back to life, and we are not expected to do the same. But why should we assume that God is unable to accomplish it?

Each and every knee must bowed at the Name of Jesus since death is the adversary (1 Corinthians 15:26). (Philippians 2:9-10). We have been given the authority to use the name of Jesus as believers.

So, if you think the Lord is telling you to, speak life to a corpse using the power of Jesus' Name. If they don't return, rejoice in the fact that they are in a good place, but at the very least you acted in faith, which pleases God.

SAY THIS: I have faith! I think that the dead can and are raised by God. The Great I AM, he is

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We stand in awe of Your power, the Great I AM, who raises the dead and quickens them to life. We acknowledge Your unchanging nature and Your ability to perform miracles at any time. We thank You for the faith of those who have witnessed Your power, from Elijah and Elisha to Peter and Paul. We ask for the same faith as Abraham, trusting in Your power to resurrect. Help us to take Your Word literally and to act in faith, even when faced with death. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
