The Importance Of God's Word

Published: February 2, 2024 · Reviewed: February 29, 2024

MATTHEW 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

When the devil tried to get Jesus to do bad things, as told in Matthew 4, Jesus' first response was to quote Deuteronomy 8:3.

Nothing is more significant than God's Word, and God wants you to learn this truth as well. God's Word is important!

DEUTERONOMY 8:2-3 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

God intended for Israel to learn this lesson in the wilderness, but regrettably, the majority of them failed to do so.

After Moses' death, Joshua took over leadership of the Israelites, and God wanted to make sure Joshua grasped the lesson. He then gave him three pieces of advice that would help him succeed: say God's Word, think God's Word, and act God's Word.

These guidelines have always remained the same. They still hold true for you today just as they did for Joshua.

JOSHUA 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

SAY THIS: God's Word is important for me to experience life as He intended.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We thank You for Your Word, the bread of life. We acknowledge that we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from Your mouth. Help us to remember Your guidance in the wilderness, to humble ourselves, and to keep Your commandments. May we, like Joshua, say, think, and act according to Your Word. Let Your Word not depart from our mouths, but let us meditate on it day and night. Guide us to live as You intended, prospering in Your Word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
